Terms of use
By using knowyourstrata.com you accept what is on this page. It is written to be understood rather than to be impressive, and the important part is the first section.
This site is operated by Nour Attaallah from Connecticut, United States. Contact: hello@knowyourstrata.com.
Everything on this site — every calculator, every checklist, every template, every explanation and everything in a paid pack — is general information about legislation. It is not legal advice, it is not a legal opinion, and it is not a substitute for one.
Using this site, subscribing to the list, or buying a pack does not create a lawyer-client relationship or any other professional relationship, and none is offered. I am not a lawyer and do not practise law in any province, state or territory.
Before you act on anything here in a way that carries consequences — sending a notice, calling a vote, levying money, refusing a records request, defending a claim — check it against your corporation's registered bylaws and, where it matters, take advice from a strata or condominium lawyer in your province.
Real effort goes into accuracy, and the method is described openly on the about page: primary sources only, a named section behind every answer, a verified date on every page, and an automated watcher on the source legislation. That method is the reason to use this site.
It is not a guarantee. Specifically:
The site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of this site or anything obtained from it, including missed deadlines, invalid notices, challenged votes, levies, fines, penalties, legal costs, or lost time or money, whether the claim is framed in contract, negligence or otherwise.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you actually paid for the product the claim relates to, which is CAD $49 or less. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here affects consumer rights you hold under the law of your own province or country.
The calculators, the cheat sheet and the explanations on the tool pages are free to use, including by a strata or condominium corporation, a manager, or a professional advising one. You may link to any page, quote from it with attribution, and print a result for your own records or your board package.
You may not republish a tool page wholesale as your own content, or copy the site to run a competing service.
What it is. A one-time purchase of CAD $49 per province. It contains a compliance calendar, checklists and templates, with every legal claim cited to the Act and traced back to a verified tool on this site. It is a digital product delivered on this website; nothing is posted to you.
Access. Payment goes through Stripe. On success you are redirected into the pack, and a link is emailed to you. That link is your access; it is personal to your purchase and does not expire on any planned schedule. Keep the email. If you lose it, write to hello@knowyourstrata.com with the address you paid from and it will be reissued.
Licence. Buying a pack gives your strata or condominium corporation, and the people acting for it, a perpetual right to use the calendar, checklists and templates for that corporation's own business: filling them in, adapting them, printing them, and circulating them within the board, to owners and to your manager.
Not permitted: reselling the pack or its contents, publishing them anywhere public, sharing your access link outside the corporation that bought it, or redistributing the materials to other corporations. If you manage several corporations and want to use the pack across a portfolio, write to me and we will sort something out rather than you guessing.
Updates. If the legislation behind a pack changes, the pack is updated and your existing access link continues to open the current version. There is no renewal and no second charge.
Thirty days, no questions asked. If a pack is not useful to you, write to hello@knowyourstrata.com within 30 days of buying it, from the address you paid with, and the full CAD $49 is refunded. You do not have to justify it, and I would rather refund you than have you feel stuck with something you cannot use.
Refunds are returned by Stripe to the original payment method and typically appear within five to ten business days, depending on your bank. Access to the pack ends when a refund is issued. The one thing that is not refunded is a purchase made in order to copy and redistribute the material.
Subscribing is optional and everything on the site works without it. Emails are sent to tell you when legislation covered by these tools changes and, occasionally, when a new tool is published. Every email has a working unsubscribe link. What is collected and who processes it is set out in the privacy policy.
This is a small, independently run site. It is expected to stay up, but it is not promised to be available continuously or without error, and pages, tools and prices may change or be withdrawn. Access already bought is honoured.
Pages here link to official sources such as bclaws.gov.bc.ca and ontario.ca, and to organisations such as CHOA, VISOA, CCI and the CAO. Those sites are not under my control and linking to them is not an endorsement or an affiliation.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the province or country where you live, and it does not stop you bringing a claim there.
These terms may change. The date below shows when they last did, and a change never applies retroactively to a purchase already made.
